I’m Olivia, I have a passion for bringing ideas to life through making. While I enjoy every stage of the design process, I am particularly drawn to the physical creation of products and seeing concepts develop into tangible outcomes.
Throughout my time at university, I have especially enjoyed working with ceramics and furniture design. I am particularly interested in creating smaller-scale products, as they allow me to focus on refining every detail and achieving a high level of craftsmanship in the final prototype.
My design work is often inspired by nature, both in form and material choice, drawing on the beauty and functionality found in the natural world. I thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and enjoy the challenge of delivering strong results within demanding deadlines.
TeaLight
TeaLight aims to raise consumers awareness of teabag waste and sustainable consumption, helping lead the change of moving away from traditional teabags, towards more sustainable alternatives such as recyclable teabags and loose tea leaves. It gives a second life to teabags that would normally be thrown away and removes the fully compostable tea leaves from the bag.
Tealight is an office lamp; the shade is made primarily out of tea bag waste, alongside a brass wireframe and mahogany base. The lamp uses inspiration from biophilic design and floral forms to symbolise renewal and growth, creating a calm environment that helps the user focus, boost productivity and bridges the gap between humans and nature.
The paper element of the shade is made fully out of teabags. Once the leaves were removed the bags were blended down, dyed pink using boiled beetroots and a deckle was used to make the paper sheets.
Each petal is handcrafted and has an individual pattern, replicating the complexity and organic appearance of petals found in nature. The gold flecks on the base were done by hand using gold leaf, visually connecting the base of the lamp to the brass frame of the shade.
